(English) How to configure SPF to improve the delivery of your email communications

To improve your deliverability, SimplificaCI automatically authenticates your communications with DKIM, and ensures your emails will pass SPF checks. That protects email senders and their recipients from spam, forgery, and phishing.

In this article, you'll learn the benefits of authentication.

 

Why Authentication Matters

Authentication is critical to the delivery of your communications, and works like a license plate for email. It provides a trackable identifier that shows to your subscriber's and your internet service provider that you're a legitimate sender, and it helps your communication to arrive in the users inbox.

 

How do I set up an SPF record?

First, you need to access your domain's administrative console - it's probably the same service in which you purchased the domain used by your company's website and internal email addresses.

If you haven't access to your domain's administrative console, contact your technical responsible or support before follow the next steps bellow.

In your services provider administrative console panel, locate your domain and go to the DNS records configuration page (Depending on the service provider, you may need to enable advanced settings to find the DNS configuration area, otherwise follow the instructions below).

Look through the records if there is any TXT between them, and if so, see if this record begins with the following text "v=spf1 include"

Important:
If you have located a record as described above, this means that you already have SPF authentication configured for that domain. In this case, skip the next part to go straight to the instructions "Using more than one SPF record for the same domain". If you have not found follow the instructions below "Configuring a new SPF record":

 

Configuring a new SPF record

Locate how to add a record and choose the TXT type. In the space corresponding to the record data, enter the following text:

v=spf1 include:spf.simplificaci.com.br ~all

After that, the record should look like this:

Using more than one SPF record for the same domain

If you have found a TXT record that begins with the following text "v=spf1 include" it is because your domain is already authenticating an email service.

To add the SimplificaCI service, you need to change the existing registry. But be careful to not add more than one record of the same type, otherwise this will invalidate the authentication of both services. So, all you have to do is, to change the value of the TXT record that already has SPF authentication by adding the SimplificaCI server.

To do this, add the code include:spf.simplificaci.com.br to the existing registry.

Final considerations

Changes to DNS records can take up to 48 hours to propagate over the Internet. To find out if the new record is already working, go to http://www.ipvoid.com/txt-lookup and check if the SimplificaCI SPF is already being shown.

After the changes propagate, SimplificaCI will no longer show SPF alerts in your account.
